Research and Faculty Expertise
The College of Engineering has more than 260 faculty in 10 academic departments plus the affiliated Knowlton School of Architecture. These faculty, along with their graduate and undergraduate student researchers and research staff, conduct research across an amazingly broad range of technologies.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced that Ohio State is among the top five universities in the nation in industry-financed research expenditures. Ohio State's research support from industry has more than doubled in the past 10 years. In the newest NSF rankings, only Duke, Penn State, MIT, and Georgia Tech received more corporate research funding. Of the $40.4 million in industry funding received in 1998, more than $28 million-70% of all industry funding-went to faculty research in the College of Engineering.
