Honor Societies

Alpha Epsilon (Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering)

An honorary society for students majoring in food, agricultural and biological engineering. Membership is by invitation only from top junior, seniors and graduates students in the program. Selection is based on scholarship and professional attainment (honorary members). Induction occurs during spring quarter.

Alpha Pi Mu (Industrial)

An honorary society for students majoring in industrial engineering. Members consist of outstanding junior, senior, and graduate students in industrial engineering. Activities include assisting the department with career days, sponsoring speakers, holding social events for faculty and students, and providing community service opportunities.

An honorary society for students majoring in metallurgy, materials science, or a related degree. To be selected students must be in the upper one-third of their junior, senior, or graduate class. Induction of new members occurs each April.

Chi Epsilon (Civil)

An honorary society for students majoring in civil engineering. Students are selected from the upper 1/3 of the junior and senior classes and must have completed a minimum of 25 hours of civil engineering courses. Activities include tutoring and holding social events that bring faculty and students together.

Eta Kappa Nu (HKN, Electrical)

An honorary society for students majoring in electrical engineering. Membership is by invitation only and members are selected from the top portion of the electrical engineering class. Activities include tutoring, hosting speakers from industry as well as student/faculty mixers.

Kappa Theta Epsilon (Co-op)

A national co-operative education honorary society formed to recognize engineering co-op and intern students with exemplary academic and work performance. Its two primary purposes are promoting the value of co-op experience among students and employers as well as providing professional and social networking opportunities for its members.

Lambda Psi

An undergraduate honorary for underrepresented minorities within the College of Engineering. Members can be from any engineering discipline, but they must have received a 3.5 or higher GPA within two quarters prior to application. Activities include quarterly study marathons, professional development workshops, and community service.

Lambda Sigma

A national undergraduate honorary society for geomatics engineering and land surveying students. Entry limited to upper percentage of juniors and seniors in Surveying and Geomatics Engineering programs. Activities include promotion of the discipline and academic excellence therein.

Pi Tau Sigma (Mechanical)

An honorary society for students majoring in mechanical engineering. Members must be in the upper third of the senior class, or the upper fourth of the junior class. Inductions take place in the autumn and spring. Pi Tau Sigma's objectives are to foster high ideals in the engineering profession, stimulate and support departmental activities, promote professional welfare, and develop leadership and citizenship.

Sigma Gamma Tau (Aero/Astro)

An honorary society for students majoring in aeronautical/astronautical engineering. Members must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be in the upper third of the senior class or, the upper fourth of the junior class or, the upper fifth of the sophomore class. Members help with academic and extra-curricular activities within the aerospace field.

Sigma Pi Sigma (Physics)

Sigma Pi Sigma exists to honor outstanding scholarship in physics; to encourage interest in physics among all students; to promote an attitude of service of its members toward their fellow students, colleagues, and the public; and to provide a fellowship of persons who have excelled in physics. The main activities of the society involve outreach projects to enhance the teaching of science in middle and high schools in Ohio.

Tau Beta Pi

The oldest engineering honor society in the nation. Membership is open to all engineering disciplines but is by invitation only, as determined by class ranking - the upper eighth of the junior class and the upper fifth of the senior class. Meetings include speakers from industry, service projects, social activities, and various other college-wide events. Ohio State hosted the 2001 National Tau Beta Pi Convention.

Texnikoi
