Student Project Team
Mini-Baja
The purpose of the team is to design, construct, test, and race a prototype four wheeled, single seat, off-road vehicle powered by a Briggs & Stratton 10-hp engine. The project provides hands on experience in areas such as computer-aided design and manufacturing, finite element modeling and analysis, welding, machining, human resource management, and fiscal management.
- 2006 – Placed 18th in Acceleration, 19th in Chain Pull, and 36th in Design out of 140 teams in the Midwest Competition
- 2005 – 24th overall out of 71 teams, 5th in Design, 9th in Cost in the East competition. 74th overall out of 116 teams, tied for 1st in the Powertrain event in the Midwest competition.
- 2004 – (MidWest competition) "Sloopy" 69th out of 137, 4th Cost, 10th Hill Climb, 16th Acceleration, 47th Design, 60th Endurance; "Dozer" 82nd out of 137, 6th Cost, 10th Hill Climb, 59th Endurance.
- 2003 – Western competition with two cars (out of 111 vehicles): Sloopy 3rd Acceleration, Tied 4th Cost, 22nd Engineering & Design, 35th Overall; "Dozer" Tied 4th Cost, 15th Acceleration, 24th Design, 85th Overall. MidWest competition with one car (out of 143 vehicles): "Sloop" 6th Hill Climb, Tied 7th Suspension/Steering, Tied 11th Powertrain, 15th Cost, Tied 16th Design Report, 18th Acceleration, 39th Maneuverability, 15th Overall after Static Events, 21st Overall after Dynamic Events.
- 2002 – West Competition (108 competitors) 7th Cost Report, 7th Engineering & Design, 5th & 7th Sales Presentation, 12th Maneuverability. Midwest Competition (129 competitors) 1st & 4th Cost Reports, 2nd Functional Digital Car Award, 8th Design Report, 12th Mechanical Design (competed with two vehicles)
